Mr.Uthayasanker Thayasivam

Mokanarangan Thayaparan is a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Manchester. He earned his undergraduate degree and master's degree at the University of Moratuwa. He completed his master's degree under the supervision of Dr. Surangika Ranathunga and Dr. Uthayasanker Thayasivam.

 

His master's research focused on translating named entities between Sinhala and Tamil. For this, he proposed a semi-supervised named entity tagging approach leveraging metric learning and word embedding models to alleviate the low-resource nature of the task.
