I am currently involved in an academic research project that places a strong emphasis on safeguarding the privacy of biometric signals within the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) domains. This project is under the esteemed supervision of Dr. R.T. Uthayashankar and Dr. Iynkaran Natkunananthan, with Dr. Iynkaran Natkunananthan serving as an accomplished faculty member at Deakin University.

Brief Description of Project

With modern AR and VR headsets capable of collecting an array of sensitive biometric data, including ECG, EEG, Eye Tracking, and PPG, the need to safeguard this information becomes increasingly imperative. These biometric data sets are inherently unique to each individual and can unveil personal insights, ranging from health status and mood to cognitive patterns, age, and gender. Consequently, the protection of this data takes center stage to prevent unauthorized access, data breaches, and potential misuse.

The anticipated outcomes of this project include enhanced user privacy, legal and ethical compliance, and the establishment of a secure data ecosystem within AR and VR environments. By providing users with confidence in the privacy and security of their biometric data, this project not only fosters trust but also sets a precedent for responsible and secure data management in emerging technologies, where privacy concerns are of paramount importance. Ultimately, it contributes to the responsible advancement of AR and VR technologies, ensuring that the benefits of these immersive experiences are accompanied by robust data protection measures.
